48th Kodansha Manga Award

The winners of the 48th Kodansha Manga Award have been announced. The boys category was won by "Frieren:Beyond Journey's End,'' written by Kaneto Yamada and illustrated by Abe Tsukasa, the girls category was won by Rumi Ichinohe for "I Was Watching Your Profile,'' and the overall category was won by Tsurumaikada's "Medalist.''

“Frieren:Beyond Journey's End” is a story set in a world “after” the demon lord has been defeated by a hero and his party, and depicts the journey of Freelen, a wizard who has lived for more than a thousand years, and the people she meets. It has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday (Shogakukan) since 2020, and a TV anime was broadcast from 2023 to 2024. "I Was Watching Your Profile'' is a youth group drama that centers on four male and female first-year high school students. It is currently being serialized in Bessatsu Friend (Kodansha), and three volumes have been published. "Medalist'', which is being serialized in Monthly Afternoon (Kodansha), is a figure skating story about a young man named Richiji Akeura who has dedicated his life to figure skating, and a girl named Inori Tsujie whose talent was discovered by him. The TV anime will begin broadcasting in January 2025 on the "NUMAnimation'' slot on TV Asahi's 24 network stations nationwide.


Each winner will receive a certificate, a bronze statue, and a cash prize of 1 million yen. The selection committee for the 48th Kodansha Manga Award was Natsumi Ando, Tsunami Unno, Etsushi Ogawa, Koji Kumeta, Kaoru Hayamine, Norifusa Mita, and Makoto Yukimura.
