Pokémon Sleep

Pokémon Sleep

With Pokémon GO, we have created the experience of adventuring with Pokémon in the real world and made the basic activity of walking into entertainment. Making sleep entertainment is our next challenge."

Tsunekazu Ishihara, president of Pokémon, a game planning company, spoke emphatically at a business strategy presentation in May 2019, announcing the smartphone game "Pokémon Sleep. Although it was one of the titles that attracted a lot of attention because of its powerful IP (intellectual property) and collaboration with the high-profile sleep market, there was almost no information about the game since its announcement. Four years later, on July 20, 2011, Pokémon Sleep was released with much anticipation.

Pokémon Sleep is a game application that uses users' sleep data. It was developed based on the concept of "looking forward to getting up in the morning. Simply download the dedicated application to your smartphone, place it under your pillow, and go to sleep. When the user wakes up in the morning, the sleep state is visualized and the results (quality) are related to the progress of the game. The feature of this app is that it raises sleep awareness through a game-like experience. The game is available for iOS and Android, and is basically free of charge.

Pokémon Sleep's adventure takes place on a small island where "Kabigon" loves to eat and sleep. There, the story follows him as he studies Pokémon sleep with Dr. Neroli, who studies Pokémon sleep. The objective is to collect Pokémon sleeping faces in the game and complete the "Pokémon Sleeping Face Book. In previous Pokémon series, one of the objectives was to complete the "Pokémon Pictorial Book" by acquiring various Pokémon. While the objective of completing the Pokémon Pictorial Book remains the same, this time the focus is on the "sleeping faces" of the Pokémon.

For example, the popular "Lizardon," perhaps confident of its own strength, sleeps with its arms crossed in a "Udegumi" sleeping pose. Raichu, on the other hand, sleeps with the tip of its tail stuck in the ground as a grounding device so that it does not become numb to the high voltage of its own body. Each Pokémon has multiple sleeping faces that are not well known, and there are many elements to collect in a Pokémon's illustrated book. Therefore, existing Pokémon fans will feel right at home in the game.
